The Primary Director is the appointed head of the Directorate, overseeing the day to day activities and policies of the Eastern Havenic Empire. Currently the Primary Director of the Empire is Elizabeth Annadale, representing the Imperial Liberal Party.
Appointment to Office Edit
The Primary Director is, customarily, the leader of the majority party. When the opposition party overtakes the majority party in the House of Commons, or when the incumbent Primary Director chooses to step down and names a successor to be approved by the House of Commons, the office is exchanged, either to a member of another party in the former option or to a member of the same party as the incumbent in the latter option. In the event of sudden death or incapacitation with a successor not named, the next highest ranking officer in the Party is selected to fill the position, with the option of continuing to hold the position until that member's party loses the majority.
The office is traditionally exchanged on June 20th, the date that newly elected members of the House of Commons enter office, however with elections occuring in the April prior to the changing of offices, the Primary Director being removed from office has ample time to prepare for the exchange and the same for the Primary Director entering office.
As there is no set limit of terms, a Primary Director may remain in the position for as long as their party retains majority status. Usually, however, it is customary to resign the position after an average of three terms. The longest tenure a Primary Director has served is four terms, or sixteen years, served by Louis Ashcroft.
